Rules
Session Participation, Byes & Unplayed Clashes
Our goal is to make sure every active player has a fair opportunity to compete, earn points, and qualify for session payouts. The following rules cover late joins, byes, missed matches, and paused players.
Joining a Session Late
- Players may join a Clash List session through the end of Round 2.
- Once Round 3 begins, no additional players may join that session.
- Players who join late will begin earning points when they enter the session. Points will not be awarded for rounds that took place before they joined.
Playing Your Assigned Clash
- Players are expected to complete their Clash during the round in which it is assigned.
- If the match cannot be completed during that round, the players will have an additional two weeks to play it.
- If the Clash is still not completed after that two-week extension, the match will expire and points can no longer be earned from that Clash.
When a Clash Is Never Played
- If both players fail to schedule or complete their Clash, the match will expire and neither player will receive points.
- If one player clearly made a reasonable effort to schedule and play the Clash, but the other player failed to respond, repeatedly canceled, did not show up, or otherwise prevented the match from being played, Clash List may treat the match as a forfeit rather than a mutual unplayed match.
- A player responsible for a forfeit will receive no points for that Clash. Clash List may award appropriate compensation to the player who was available and made a reasonable effort to play.
Byes and Rounds Without an Opponent
- Sometimes an active player may not receive a Clash because of an odd number of players, scheduling circumstances, or another situation outside of the player's control.
- When this happens, List management will make every reasonable attempt to match that player with another player who also needs a Clash.
- If a replacement Clash can be arranged, the match will be played under normal Clash List rules and will count as that player's Clash for the missed round.
- If List management is unable to arrange a replacement Clash before the end of the session, the player may choose one of the following options:
Paid Bye: The player may pay the normal Clash dues for that round and receive 5 points.
Unpaid Bye: The player may choose not to pay Clash dues for that round and receive 2 points.
These options are intended to make sure players are not unfairly penalized when Clash List is unable to provide them with an opponent.
Pausing Your Participation
- Players may pause their participation at any time before pairings are created for the next round.
- A paused player will not be assigned a Clash for that round, will not owe dues for that round, and will not receive points for that round.
- Once pairings have been created, pausing will not cancel an already assigned Clash.
- Players may return from a pause before a future round begins and will become eligible for pairings again.
Clash Dues
- Players are responsible for dues associated with the rounds in which they participate.
- This includes completed Clashes and any round in which the player chooses the Paid Bye option.
- Players will not owe dues for rounds in which they are paused or choose the Unpaid Bye option.
- All outstanding dues must be paid by the end of the session.
Fair Play
- These rules are designed to protect players from losing competitive opportunities because of circumstances outside of their control while also keeping the standings fair for everyone.
- Players are expected to communicate with their opponents, make a reasonable effort to schedule their matches, and complete Clashes within the required timeframe.
- Clash List reserves the right to review unusual situations and determine whether a match should be recorded as an unplayed Clash, a forfeit, a bye, or another appropriate status in order to protect the fairness of the session.
